The problem we set out to solve
Every HIPAA compliance vendor sells the same metric: a completion percentage. A green bar creeping toward 100. It answers exactly one question — how much of a form did you fill out — and none of the questions a practice owner actually needs answered.
The Patient Protect Score is our answer to the question completion percentages cannot answer: where do we stand? Not how far into the checklist. Not how many boxes we ticked. Where does the practice actually stand — mapped, executed, and exposed.
Completion is not protection.
A completed risk assessment can still reveal serious vulnerabilities. A strong security result means less when important systems, workforce members, or risk inputs have never been mapped. And configuring a compliance platform does not mean the required assessment work has been completed.
Patient Protect keeps those conditions separate — and then brings them together in one score.
Setup Score · Visibility
Is the practice visible?
The Setup Score reflects whether the administrative and operational foundation of the practice has been established inside Patient Protect. That includes the workforce, IT systems, risk analytics, responsible personnel, and other information needed to understand the office.
Compliance Score · Execution
Has the work been completed?
The Compliance Score reflects progress through the Security Risk Assessment and the compliance work Patient Protect uses to evaluate and document the practice.
Security Score · Exposure
What did the work reveal?
The Security Score reflects the outcome of that assessment — the vulnerabilities, unresolved findings, and security conditions identified within the practice.
Setup
is visibility.
Compliance
is execution.
Security
is exposure.
This is what a Live Patient Protect Score looks like.
The composite Score sits at the top. The three components live directly beneath it, so a practice manager can see not just where they stand, but which lever is pulling the number.

Live Patient Protect Score · inside the platform
The total is the headline. The components are the diagnosis.
The Patient Protect Score gives practice owners one answer to “where do we stand?” The three component scores explain why.
A lower score caused by incomplete Setup is a different problem from a lower score caused by unresolved Security findings. One requires better visibility into the practice. The other requires remediation. Patient Protect shows the difference.
Different score profiles require different actions. That is why the Patient Protect Score displays composition, not just a total — one number is the headline, the three components are the diagnosis.

The free score is based on self-reported assessment inputs. The Live Patient Protect Score uses deeper operational data and may differ as Patient Protect gains a more complete view of the practice.
The number matters. The direction matters more.
A single score shows where the practice stands now. The trend shows whether it is improving, stalled, or slipping. Patient Protect records that movement over time, giving the practice a visible history of the work performed and the condition that resulted.

What the Patient Protect Score is — and what it is not.
It is
- A proprietary diagnostic of practice setup, compliance execution, and identified security exposure.
- A way to identify what is holding the program back.
- A progress signal that changes as the practice performs work.
- A common language for the owner, office manager, security officer, and advisor.
It is not
- A government-issued score.
- A legal opinion.
- A HIPAA certification.
- A guarantee that an incident or violation cannot occur.
HHS does not endorse private organizations' HIPAA Security Rule certifications, and private certification does not discharge an organization's legal obligations. The Patient Protect Score is a diagnostic, not a certification.
Know it. Raise it. Keep it current.
